Kevin Estrella - Beating the Odds!

In 2023, Kevin suffered a widow-maker heart attack at home. Reports from the American Heart Association show that when this type of heart attack happens outside the hospital only 12% of people survive. Six months after his heart attack he underwent quadruple bypass surgery.

Help Kevin beat the odds again by being part of the 1% of the population to complete a marathon. 100% of the donations will go to the Yolo Crisis Nursery to help our community's most vulnerable children beat the odds and thrive! Kevin is raising $20,000+ for this cause and will be participating in the 26.2-mile Honolulu Marathon, which takes place on December 8th. Please support Kevin's efforts!

UPDATE: In early October Kevin successfully completed the Urban Cow half-marathon with a torn meniscus. Upward and onward! Moving forward he now continues to train for the full marathon in Honolulu on December 8th, torn meniscus and all!

Nov 9 UPDATE: We've reached our goal of $20,000 for the Yolo Crisis Nursery!!! In this time and season of giving thanks, I am so thankful to be part of our community. I am humbled and grateful for all the outpouring of support. But there's no reason to stop now. Let's keep it going and continue to raise money for such a great cause.

It's less than 1 month to the Honolulu Marathon! I've got 1 more long run, 20 miles, before I start to taper down with the training. Thankfully, my knee seems to be holding up despite the torn meniscus. I've figured out a stride and a method that will help me finish the race. I've learned that running for 1 mile, walking for 1 minute and repeating that cycle keeps the pain tolerable. I just need to do that 26 times! An experienced marathoner wrote, "Pain is inevitable, suffering is optional." That's the mindset I try to have. Thinking of all the moral support and encouragement I've received so far will help me reach the finish line.
